 Unfolding about the panchayat minutes of meeting Manoj Yadav of Baraut village said that the meeting was called after series of criminal offences against women on the state-roads.“In case we learn about criminal activities, all surrounding villages will be alerted. Each group will be in touch with each other and during any emergency situation work together to tackle the issue. On nabbing them we Small Red Onions Exporters will hand them to police,” said Yadav. We will corner them from all sides.Deteriorating law and order and spurt rise in crime against women in India’s largest state, Uttar Pradesh, has forced elders of a panchayat in western part of the state to form self-vigilant groups to protect the fairer sex and travelers on the highways.

The villagers have christened the group ‘Dehat Suraksha Bal’.The participants of Baraut panchayat meeting said, “The Dehat Suraksha Dal has been formed with the sole purpose of safeguarding the honor and dignity of our woman.The decision to forming self-vigilant groups was taken at a panchayat meeting in Baghpat’s Baraut village. The panchayat members informed that the group has been to kept vigil and not engage criminals.“In the meeting it was said that the police is failing to protect us due lack of will to work and political netas make fake promises,” said Manoj Singh, a participant of the meeting.He added that the members will also hold meetings with the villagers to learn day to day problems too. From every village at least 12 youths will be selected.The members of the vigilant-group will wear uniforms and will be unarmed.The dehat-force will comprise youths including boys and girls.”The  group is said to start functioning as the monsoon ends.
